Between March 1997 and September 1998 I drove on a few single venue rallies in the South East of England using a shagged Renault 5 GT Turbo. These were 99% sealed surface events, with the odd very short bits of grass, gravel or mud to connect the tarmac and concrete stages.
At the end of 2000 I ordered a GrpN1 VW Polo 16v, with the intention of doing the Polo Challenge for 2001, and taking the Polo on the World Cup Rally. Regulations conspired against us and we ended up taking an under-prepared Peugeot 205 on the WCR, and missing out on a few of the Polo rounds due to an accident and the WCR.
At the start of June 2002 I purchased a GrpN4 Mitsubishi EVO VI, but I only managed 6 events with it before selling it on since it was a bit too expensive to run. Bit of a shame since it was a great fun car to drive and brought big smiles to my face on uphill hairpins in the woods.
For 2004 I switched to running a GrpN3 Vauxhall Astra - one of the Wizard Motorsport cars. During 2007 I purchased a GrpN4 Impreza, which was originally a Prodrive car; but since 1999 had been through a few owners and a few rallies.
I did not actually drive on gravel properly until the middle of 2001, when I had a test day prior to my first gravel event the 2001 Scottish Rally. So far I think I can compete faster on gravel than on tarmac - but I really enjoy the closed road events too.
All of the events I have entered are listed below, including my co-driving and my test sessions. The number in brackets is the number of competitive events I have done as a driver. Clicking on the "Read More..." link, or on the picture will take you to a report about the particular event.
